Walt Kelly created the Pogo comic strip, which appeared in American newspapers from 1948 until 1975. Furthermore, the Post-Hall Syndicate distributed the famous series nationwide. Set in the Okefenokee Swamp, the story follows anthropomorphic animal characters like Pogo the opossum. The strip targets both children and adults with clever social and political satire. Consequently, Kelly earned a prestigious Reuben Award in 1951 for his brilliant work.
