BREAKING THE CYCLE OF HOMELESSNESS

Children experiencing homelessness face unique academic, psychological and social challenges.

1.

Without a safe place to play, kids miss out on critical aspects of development, including learning to walk, making eye contact and more.

2.

Parents who are struggling to feed their children and to ensure they have a safe place to sleep often don’t have time or energy to focus on literacy, behavior and school attendance.

3.

Children who are homeless are four times as likely to have delayed development and twice as likely to repeat a grade in school.

THERAPEUTIC CHILDCARE

Our services are dedicated to preparing children who are homeless for success. We do this by integrating behavioral, developmental and clinical services.

Therapeutic Childcare Services Include:

Child Development Programs

State-licensed childcare that builds the essential skills children need: Cope with tough situations, trust others, resolve conflict, problem solve, think independently & control reactions.

Behavioral Health

Children are clinically assessed, and receive support and treatment to ensure healthy development and behavior.

Family Literacy Program

We create a fun and supportive environment to encourage children & parents to read while also teaching strategies that improve literacy.

After-School Programs

Each week day, school-age children have a safe place to do their homework and engage in educational activities. Volunteer tutors and mentors support the kids.

Parenting Support

Parenting classes cover child development, attachment and safety. Families can attend family therapy, in which parents are observed and coached during interactions with their children.

Mentorship

Volunteer mentors visit their assigned buddies each week to help them with their school work and to show them they care.

“At Therapeutic Childcare, my kids’ reading skills have gotten better. Their attention span has got better. They’re interacting with other kids more.”
