Why Can’t I Donate Certain Items?
Old, Broken & Unusable Items
Unfortunately, whenever we receive an item that cannot be sold in our stores or easily recycled, we have to pay for disposal. This means that less funds go towards helping our neighbors in need.
Please only donate items that are in gently-used, new condition or “usable”. We cannot accept furniture or items that are broken, torn or severely damaged. Unusable items are any items that are stained, broken, torn, cracked, peeling, worn, etc. We do not accept anything that needs to be repaired or refinished, as we do not have the means to fix them for resale.
Items Restricted for Resale
Other items, such as cribs, toilets, chemicals, mattresses and more, are restricted for resale by California state law and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Move Items to Entry Level
We value the health and safety of our staff. To protect the wellbeing of our truck drivers and store employees, our policy is that we cannot accept anything that cannot be carried safely by two people. This means we are unable to accept big items like beds, pianos, pool tables, conference tables, etc. Additionally, for their safety, drivers cannot move furniture items up or down stairs once they enter the residence. All items must be on the entry level of the residence for pickup.
