This vintage VHS tape of Christmas in Connecticut remains sealed in its original shrink-wrap, making it a collectible item. Peter Godfrey directed this 1945 American Christmas romantic comedy, starring Barbara Stanwyck, Dennis Morgan, and Sydney Greenstreet. The film, moreover, follows Elizabeth Lane, a writer who pretends to be a farm wife. Complications arise, furthermore, when her publisher insists she host a war hero for Christmas. This film was donated new in its original shrink-wrap.
Elizabeth Lane, a New York lifestyle writer, maintains a popular column about her fictitious Connecticut farm life. Her publisher, Alexander Yardley, unaware of the charade, demands Elizabeth host war hero Jefferson Jones for Christmas dinner. Facing scandal, Elizabeth agrees to marry her friend John Sloan, who owns a Connecticut farm. She also enlists her chef friend, Felix Bassenak, for recipes. On Christmas Eve, Elizabeth arrives at Sloan’s farm, meeting the housekeeper Norah, and using a neighbor’s baby as theirs. Their planned quick marriage is, however, interrupted by Jefferson’s early arrival, leading to Elizabeth’s immediate attraction.
The judge returns on Christmas morning, but the ceremony is postponed when a different baby appears. Felix falsely claims the baby swallowed his watch to stop the wedding. Later, the baby’s real mother arrives while the household is at a dance. Alexander mistakenly believes the baby is being kidnapped. Elizabeth and Jefferson spend the night in jail after accidentally taking a neighbor’s horse and sleigh. Upon their return, Alexander fires Elizabeth after she confesses everything.
Mary Lee, Jefferson’s fiancée, arrives unexpectedly. Elizabeth prepares to leave. Felix learns Mary Lee has already married. He then convinces Alexander to rehire Elizabeth with a raise by fabricating a story about a rival magazine’s offer. Felix tells Jefferson he is free to pursue Elizabeth. Alexander then interrupts Elizabeth’s packing, followed by Jefferson. Jefferson reveals Mary Lee’s marriage, and the couple kiss, planning their own wedding.
