Plot: Romance in the Wild West
In the isolated Deadwood, Dakota, territory, sharpshooter Calamity Jane (Doris Day) feels affection for cavalry Lt. Danny Gilmartin (Philip Carey). She rescues him from Native Americans. Calamity recognizes the town’s need for “real” women. She journeys to Chicago to bring back famous singer Adelaid Adams. However, she mistakenly brings back Adelaid’s maid, Katie, instead. Calamity feels heartbroken when Danny falls for Katie. As a result, she largely ignores her jovial friend Wild Bill Hickok (Howard Keel). The film then explores the evolving relationships.
