Railway inspector Paul Labiche soon gets pressed into service. He reroutes the train, using clever deception. He renames each train station along the way, confusing Von Waldheim.

Inspiration for the train’s interception scenes came from real-life events. These surrounded train No. 40,044. Lt. Alexandre Rosenberg of the Free French forces seized this train outside Paris. The film brings this historical event to the screen.
