Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) often accompanies other health conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, past trauma, and other life challenges.
We provide a variety of behavioral health services to help manage substance use disorder-related issues.
About the Transformative Recovery
Services (TRS) Program
Our Transformative Recovery Services (TRS) outpatient substance use disorder treatment program is available.
Our TRS counselor can assist with referrals for detox, inpatient treatment, and other levels of care.
Group counseling is offered 5 days a week. Induction/initial visit will be in-person. Telehealth and/or in-person visits available for follow-up appointments.
The MAT program effectively manages withdrawal symptoms and cravings with medications, referrals for treatment if needed, and provides a safe place to heal and find support. Our clinic welcomes you.
Program Manager Norman Mackenzie‘s diverse experience in various modalities of substance use treatment enriches the MAT/TRS program at Father Joe’s Village by integrating multiple evidence-based approaches tailored to individual client needs. His background allows for a more holistic treatment strategy that addresses both the medical and psychosocial aspects of recovery, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the program.

What is buprenorphine?
Buprenorphine/naloxone is a medication that treats dependence on to opioids, such as prescription painkillers (like Vicodin, Oxycontin, or Percocet) and heroin/Fentanyl.
Buprenorphine/naloxone works by binding to the opioid receptors in the brain and replacing the opioid, so it allows people to stop using or cut back while avoiding cravings and withdrawal.
Suboxone and Sublocade are common brand names.
Medications offered
We offer the following medications:
Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) and Sublocade (buprenorphine) monthly injections, Vivitrol, and Naltrexone prescriptions.
Is drinking a problem?
These are the medications we offer to help with that: Vivitrol and Naltrexone.
How does it work?
Buprenorphine/naloxone decreases withdrawal symptoms and cravings. This makes it easier to stop using or cut down.
How often do I have to go in for treatment?
MAT services can be done in person, via telehealth, and during street health visits. Initial treatment requires weekly check-ins.
How long is the treatment?
Some people take the medication for years. Others may choose to taper off the medication after 6-12 months.
What happens if I relapse during treatment?
Treatment doesn’t stop! We will support you as you get back on track. Counseling is available.
Will my treatment be covered by insurance?
We will treat you regardless of your insurance status. We accept Medi-Cal and can assist with insurance enrollment.

Last year, in the City of San Diego alone,
410 people died of fentanyl overdose.
This is an 800% increase over five years prior when 45 people were killed by the drug in 2018.
Further, fentanyl overdose was the No. 1 cause of death of people experiencing homelessness, with 181 lives lost to the drug in 2022.
The San Diego Police Department has increased fentanyl-related arrests by 53% in the city of San Diego.
