Father Joe’s Villages Run For Hope 5K Turkey Trot: A Day of Community, Compassion, and Giving
On Thanksgiving morning, we were delighted to see nearly 7,500 people lace up their sneakers, show up in their yellow shirts, and gather in Balboa Park for our 23rd Annual Thanksgiving Day 5K, presented by Aya Healthcare.
Every dollar raised through registration fees, donations, and sponsorships helps fund our food services programs, which provide warm meals and nutritional support to those experiencing homelessness in our community. Together, we raised over $480,000, bringing significant relief to our neighbors during these trying times.
We are a movement in this space, and this event served as a powerful reminder of our strength when we unite to help those in need. In a time when so many are struggling, your kindness and support mean more than ever. As the holiday season unfolds, we are grateful for your ongoing commitment to making a difference.
Thanksgiving Special Meal at the Village
Our Thanksgiving Special Meal is a cherished tradition at Father Joe’s Villages. Through these holiday gatherings, our exceptional food services team builds trust with our neighbors in need, fostering a sense of community and offering vital support to those who need it most.
Food and social connection are critical determinants of health, and when either is lacking, it creates significant barriers to escaping homelessness. In San Diego County, one in four residents faces nutritional insecurity, struggling to provide three healthy meals a day for themselves or their families. That’s why we are committed to providing hope this holiday season—through nourishing meals and by bringing our community together.
This year’s Thanksgiving meal included 3,250 pounds of turkey, 300 pounds of mashed potatoes and gravy, 250 pounds of Brusselssprouts, and various festive desserts. Staff and volunteers distributed approximately 1,200 warm holiday meals and care packages.
Making Spirits Bright—Annual Children’s Christmas Party
A delicious dinner, a visit from Santa Claus, and an abundance of holiday cheer contributed to the bright smiles of children and families during our annual Children’s Christmas Party. This event was made possible by the generosity of our donors and volunteers, who provided an extraordinary experience, including a limousine ride to the party at the Bayfront Hotel.
Upon arrival at the Bayfront Hotel, the children were immersed in a festive atmosphere characterised by holiday spirit. They participated in a variety of engaging arts and crafts activities and enjoyed an array of delicious treats. Each child received a special gift, fostering joy and gratitude as they celebrated the season. Additionally, the event created an opportunity for families to come together, partake in the festivities, and experience a sense of community support.
Father Joe’s Villages has served nearly 900 children this year, contributing to the development of a promising future for our leaders of tomorrow.
Holiday Village at the Bayfront: A Cause to Celebrate
The holiday season began on a heartwarming note as we gathered for an impactful evening at our first annual Holiday Village at the Bayfront!
We were proud to partner with the Hilton San Diego Bayfront to create a display of joy, wonder, and hope. Seventeen trees were meticulously decorated by volunteers and auctioned to the community, raising nearly $27,000 to support our neighbors in need this Christmas.
We deeply appreciate the substantial participation from businesses, organizations, and individuals who are committed to our mission of preventing and ending homelessness in San Diego. We collectively foster a more compassionate and equitable society by addressing this pressing issue one life at a time.
