Scheck is manager of the San Diego Day Center at Father Joe’s Villages and lives in Santee.
I am the manager of the San Diego Day Center at Father Joe’s Villages, where people experiencing homelessness can receive basic needs we all take for granted. Things like taking a shower, laundry, a bathroom, access to mail or even charging their phone. My eight years at the Day Center have shown me how important the services we provide are to those trying to get off the street.
The Day Center is not a shelter, but is a community space where people experiencing homelessness can rest and receive essential everyday needs we may take for granted. Individuals can also meet with case managers to figure out resources in the community and their next steps to exiting homelessness. We like to call this the most successful social services program in the city by providing basic humanitarian services on a grand scale. Nowhere else in the city of San Diego can you receive this care and have a safe respite seven days a week. Visit the link below to read on.
