I love Thanksgiving. It’s the time of year that celebrates the people and events that enrich our lives. I look forward to being surrounded by my loved ones, the comfort of traditions and a table full of guests. This year, the Thanksgiving table at our home will look different.
They say that a smile opens doors and creates possibility. But imagine going to a job interview and being terrified to smile, or fading into the background because happiness is replaced with shame at each thought of missing teeth or other dental issues.
War often leaves an indelible mark on the communities we call home, on our families and on many of the 8700 neighbors in need who call the streets of San Diego County home. It is no secret that we live in a military town, but did you know that San Diego also has the distinction of the third highest number of homeless veterans in the United States?
You know by now that our work is driven by a mission to end homelessness, not the promise of awards. That doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate recognition from our peers and community of the important work happening daily at Father Joe’s.
