Each Thanksgiving, families across San Diego give thanks for health, good fortune and a safe place to call home. But for Jonathan, the holiday season never meant much. For years, he struggled with homelessness, addiction and a host of health issues, including blindness.

“I didn’t want to die like that,” Jonathan said. “I was killing myself.”

Then, Jonathan and his guide dog, Moses, came to Father Joe’s Villages. He not only found a safe place to sleep and nutritious meals, but also responsive and caring staff who understood his needs and integrated health care that included focused treatment for his addiction. Empowered by these resources and the people who believed in him, Jonathan overcame addiction and got back on his feet. He has even begun working toward a career in education so that he can inspire young people to achieve their potential.

This year, Jonathan will enjoy Thanksgiving dinner surrounded by friends in a home of his own.

“Thank God for Father Joe’s Villages,” he says. “They gave me a place to stay, food to eat and got me going to Alcoholics Anonymous. Now, I’ve got my own place.”

As you count your blessings this Thanksgiving, you can empower people like Jonathan to achieve a new life of self-sufficiency. When you give to Father Joe’s Villages, you change lives.

Will you make a donation to give someone like Jonathan a home and a future for which to be thankful?
