Deacon Jim Vargas gives thanks to the many supporters who help Father Joe’s Villages continue our mission to end homelessness, one life at a time.

“No duty is more urgent than that of giving thanks.” ~St. Ambrose

This Thanksgiving, I want to express my gratitude to you for supporting Father Joe’s Villages throughout the year and most especially during these last few months. Father Joe’s Villages and the San Diego community have been fighting an outbreak of hepatitis A where our neighbors who are homeless have suffered most of all. While the crisis continues, the generous support of donors like you helped us mount an immediate response to help fight San Diego’s hep A emergency. Father Joe’s Villages leaped into action to halt the spread of the virus and to heal those who’ve been impacted.

Father Joe’s Villages responded to the outbreak by enhancing and expanding upon existing emergency services, while we continued to provide the life-saving services that move men, women and children off the streets and into their own permanent housing. At Father Joe’s Villages, we know that the most effective way to fight hep A is to help people find their way home. It is imperative now more than ever that we stay focused on ending homelessness altogether.

I also want to thank you for helping us serve nearly 756,000 meals in the first 9 months of the year. So far we’ve served a hot, nutritious meal to more than 7,600 people experiencing homelessness in San Diego.

As we look towards Thanksgiving and sitting down to our own tables to give thanks, I hope you will continue your commitment to the men, women and children suffering on our streets by making a generous gift to Father Joe’s Villages today.

You help to make so much good happen in the lives of the people we serve – from hot meals to specialized health care to warm beds and permanent homes. Thank you.

As we near the end of 2017 and look forward t0 2018, I hope you will consider becoming a monthly donor. Your tax-deductible donation can do so much good for your community:

  • $25 provides hot lunch for 2 preschool classrooms.
  • $50 provides 2 weeks of meals for a veteran.
  • $100 provides a week of meals for a family of 4.

This Thanksgiving, I give thanks for donors like you.
