Fun(d)raiser to benefit the homeless teens of Toussaint Academy

Father Joe’s Villages is calling all sports enthusiasts and challenge- minded individuals to go vertical at its TOWERthon on Saturday, June 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The 4th Annual TOWERthon, sponsored by the Grainger Foundation, will take place at 550 Corporate Center. The event proceeds will benefit the homeless youth of Father Joe’s Villages’ Toussaint Academy. Appropriate for most ages and abilities, the event challenges participants to move skyward up 20 flights in one of downtown San Diego’s most attractive and environmentally friendly skyscrapers.

“TOWERthon’s 20-story vertical challenge is the ideal combination of fundraising, physical fitness and active fun,” said Deacon Jim Vargas, Father Joe’s Villages’ president and CEO. “We’re especially thankful to San Diego’s endurance athletes and running clubs for their support of the region’s homeless youth through their participation in this pulse- and elevation-raising event.”

The TOWERthon is a professionally timed endurance event provides opportunity for both competitive runners and non-competitive walkers, with separate staircases for each category. A designated, ELITE-participant start time will provide competitive climbers a clear path in the stairwell. To assure the health, safety and hydration of all participants, aid stations will be strategically placed along the course routes in both stairwells. Elevators are available for emergencies and to return to ground level at the completion of the event.

Proceeds from the event will support Toussaint Academy San Diego, a haven for homeless and at-risk teens since 1992. At Toussaint, teens live and learn in a supportive group setting, gaining the life skills necessary to graduate high school and become self-sufficient, successful young adults.

The 550 Corporate Center is located at 550 West C Street, San Diego, CA 92101. For more information on the event and to register, visit www.TOWERthon.com.
