You know by now that our work is driven by a mission to end homelessness, not the promise of awards. That doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate recognition from our peers and community of the important work happening daily at Father Joe’s.

Take, for example, two recently received recognitions of the work and programs at Father Joe’s. October was a good month for peer recognition, including receiving the Downtown Partnership’s Vic Kops Humanitarian Award for our work in improving the lives of those who call Downtown San Diego home and the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Edward L. Bernays Award of Merit for our new brand and website.

The Downtown San Diego Partnership presents the Vic Kops Humanitarian Award in recognition of humanitarian efforts that have enriched and improved Downtown San Diego. Father Joe’s Villages received the award for our efforts in reaching out to local churches and ministries, ultimately convincing them to serve meals at our facility rather than on the street.

An intensive process and coordination with our communications consultants at Mixte Communications earned our new website the Edward L. Bernays Award of Merit The Public Relations Society of America’s San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter presents this honor to local professionals who executed the year’s finest public relations campaigns. Our new comprehensive and user-friendly website earned the award for creating a one-stop-shop for our organization and programs.

Would we do what we do without the awards? Absolutely! The real award is providing a hand up out of homelessness to our clients. But to paraphrase Sally Field, it sure is nice to feel like our community and peers like us, really like us, and our work.
